At 8:00 a.m. today, the Shallow Low Pressure Area (SLPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data 210 km East of Northern Mindanao (9.5°N 128.0°E),while the Southwest Monsoon continues to affect Luzon. These weather systems will bring scattered to widespread rains over Northern Mindanao and the western section of Northern and Central Luzon. Residents living in low lying areas and along mountain slopes are advised to be on alert for possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides. Meanwhile, a Tropical Storm (GUCHOL) was estimated 1,370 km East of Mindanao (9.3°N, 140.7°E) or over the Caroline Islands with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness up to 80 kph. It is moving Westward at 15 kph and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow or early Friday and shall be named "BUTCHOY". The next update will be incorporated in the public weather forecast at 5:00 p.m. today while the next advisory will be issued at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow. |
