Boat capsizes near Cebu; all 100 passengers rescued

MANILA, Philippines — A passenger boat carrying about 100 passengers capsized near Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu early morning of Friday, a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said.

Quoting Commander Rolando Punzalan, chief of Cebu coast guard, the report said all passengers were rescued after relatives rushed to their office to inform them about the incident.

Punzalan said the boat, MV RD Express, was headed to Cebu City from Kalibutan Island, Talibo, Bohol, when the accident happened 2:10 a.m.

The boat suddenly capsized between Gilutongan Island and municipality of Cordova in Cebu even though the weather was good, Punzalan was quoted as saying.

Authorities are still investigating the incident as a marine protest is set to be filed against the captain of the boat, the report said.
