Why is it called Good Friday?

Good Friday is the day commemorating Jesus Christ's death on the Cross, which is probably to be dated April 3, A.D. 33. In the liturgical calendar of the Western church, it is the Friday before Easter. The exact origins of the name are uncertain; some argue it stems from the use of "Good" as an adjective applied to the day, which is an Old English synonym for "holy." Others argue it is a corruption of the word "God," in the same way that "Good Bye" comes from the phrase "God be with ye."

Christians believe the day is "good" because the message of Easter is of Christ's victory over sin, death, and the devil; as the Apostle Paul wrote: "Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us." It is believed that, in Jesus' death on the Cross, He took once and for all the sins of all mankind upon Himself, in our place. This gift He extends to everyone who will believe in Him. Believing in the Good News of the Gospel is our hope. Jesus, the Son of God, who died for our sins, was raised again for our justification, we who believe being made in right stead with God.

However, the term "Good Friday" is only used by Western Christians, and not by Eastern Orthodox Christians. The Orthodox refer to this sacred day as "Great and Holy Friday."

What is Easter? Have you heard about Easter eggs?

On Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches.

Christians believe, according to Scripture, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. Through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin, thus purchasing for all who believe in him, eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Easter Season

In Western Christianity, Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. Eastern Orthodox churches observe Lent or Great Lent, during the 6 weeks or 40 days preceding Palm Sunday with fasting continuing during the Holy Week of Easter. Lent for Eastern Orthodox churches begins on Monday and Ash Wednesday is not observed.

Because of Easter's pagan origins, and also because of the commercialization of Easter, many Christian churches choose to refer to the holiday as Resurrection Day.

What is an Easter egg?
Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime.

The egg is a pagan symbol of the rebirth of the Earth in celebrations of spring and was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus.[1]
The oldest tradition is to use dyed or painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans. These eggs are often hidden, allegedly by the Easter Bunny, for children to find on Easter morning. Otherwise, they are generally put in a basket filled with real or artificial straw to resemble a bird's nest.

The egg is widely used as a symbol of the start of new life, just as new life emerges from an egg when the chick hatches out.

7 Ways to Make Your Holy Week Really Holy

Holy Week is that time of the year when Catholics commemorate the passion and death of Jesus and celebrate his resurrection. Since it is also vacation time for most people, it is easy to forget that Holy Week is about prayer, devotions and penance, and not about going to the beach and partying all night.
Do you want to have a holy Holy Week? Your Semana Santa will just turn out to be any other week if you do not make a personal effort to sanctify it. So what should you do to make Holy Week truly holy? Aside from participating in Church liturgical services, I suggest the following activities. But of course, you can add your own suggestions to the list.

1. Some of our worst enemies are our own kin. Reach out to your difficult family members and do the Stations of the Cross and the visita iglesia with them.

2. Jesus loves everyone and befriends those who are condemned by others as sinners and outcasts. Remember the people you dislike or hate. Text, call or visit them and reconcile with them this Holy Week.

3. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. You can also “wash the feet” of others by doing acts of humble and loving service.

4. Give up something you don’t need or spend as much on your needy neighbors as you spend on hard drinks, cigarettes, and other unnecessary wants.

5. On Maundy Thursday, prepare a simple meal for your family and begin the meal with a shared prayer and a short remembrance of the Last Supper.

6. On Good Friday, spend a quite time before a crucifix. Reflect on the important choices you have made in the past. Get to know yourself better and ask: what changes do I need to make in order to foster a more intimate relationship with Christ?

7. On Black Saturday, make Easter presents for those who are close to your heart. Make something that will express to them that they are important and precious to you.

One thing you should not miss when you get to Imperial are the Slides. I believe there are 3 of them. The white slide which is just okay, the green slide (the first one I tried and it really set the mood, it was a damn good one, I am telling you. You should try it if you want to experience all the thrills you've expected). The slide with some red and white colors in it is the last one I tried. I was thinking it was under maintenance since I did not see people using it and when I got up there, there was like a rope in front of the slide entrance. It took me so many hours to actually ask if I can go and try. The attendant said yes so I gave it a Go. It was really, really nice. The slide is called something like a Space Bowl.. You get through the slide lightning fast and once you get out to the bowl, you will go around it like 5 times before you finally drop through the hole in the center of the bowl and splash yourself down to the water.

I happen to have started a conversation with this Korean fellow and he shared that they come all the way from Korea to Imperial Palace here in Cebu with his entire family. And take note, it is in time for their wedding anniversary. That is one very good reason to celebrate the occasion in a very nice place. When you get to the place, most of the guests are Koreans probably due to the fact that the hotel is owned by a Korean.

I was excited to be in Imperial Palace that I have forgotten all about those radiation news. Basically, the time we were in Imperial was within that 24 hour warning that people in the Philippines have to stay away from the sun or you have to prevent being directly exposed by the sun due to a possibility of a radiation exposure as well. (Though it turned out to be just a hoax) That was like few days after the 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Tokyo, Japan. A day before, reports were in the papers that a radiation leak occured in the Fukushima Nuclear Plant.

Well, I could not help but admire the beauty of the place and have myself forget what worse things radiation can do to our body and to our skin.

Having a day tour at Imperial could be pricey but it is really worth the experience. Giving such a treat to your family once in a while is really a good thing to cherish. That is P1,900 per person during weekdays and P2,300 during weekends. You may also want to bring your kids who are only 4 years old and below because they can get on board for free.

If you try to imagine going to any other tourist destination in the Philippines, that would cost you a lot starting off with the air fare. Of course busy people do not have the luxury of time to take the boat trip so going to your favorite place by plane would be the best option.

For me, having a relaxing day in the weekend at Imperial is a really good experience. If not because of my very good cousin, I would not be there at Imperial that day. So, I just enjoyed each moment I was there. Not all good things last for a lifetime and not 2 things happen exactly the same.

Seriously, everything you are looking for is here at Imperial Palace.

The day tour in Imperial would not be complete without the best buffet ever at Familia Buffet Restaurant. From the waterpark, we rode a cart going to the restaurant because it is some distance away. Or if you want to starve yourself first before partaking all the good food at the restaurant, going for a walk is a nice trick. I never actually thought of that until now that I wrote this. But no worries, by the time you get in, you will embrace all the kinds of food, desserts, and foreign cuisines. Most of them I could not name. It was the grandest buffet I have ever tried so far. I highly recommend for you to be very educated on how to free a lot of space in your stomach so you will not get full immediately.

I made sure I do not get full with the main courses so I can have enough rooms for the wide array of dessert selections. I tell you, there are a lot of them. For lunch, you can stay from 12nn until 2:30pm and for dinner, it starts as early as 6pm and ends at 9. By the way, the buffet is already part of the package. I think this is the best time to get even with the cost of the day tour.

The photos below are just desserts. Maybe I was really busy eating to miss taking pictures of the main courses.

I am pretty sure you will not leave the restaurant craving for more. Definitely, you will have yourself extremely satisfied.

I think this chair is made of rattan. You can see more of this when you get to the Familia Buffet restaurant.

You can relax yourself here while looking at the beach side.

The above photo is the lobby. You will have to meet the receptionist here and pay what you ought to pay. After that, you will be given something like a wrist band to signify that you are a guest for the day tour and that you paid. By the way, you do not need to bring towels because the resort provides one. You will surely feel at home because customer service is one of a kind. You will be treated like a VIP.

You can contact Imperial Palace Customer Service at (32) 494-5100.

Who is Bruno Mars

Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and music producer. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age. After performing in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood, he decided to pursue a musical career and moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school. Mars began producing songs for other artists, joining production team The Smeezingtons.

After an unsuccessful stint with Motown Records, Mars signed with Atlantic Records in 2009. He became recognized as a solo artist after lending his vocals and co-writing the hooks for the songs "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B, and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He also co-wrote the hits "Right Round" by Flo Rida featuring Kesha, "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan, and "Fuck You!" by Cee Lo Green. In October 2010, he released his debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. Anchored by the worldwide number one singles "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade", the album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200.[2] He was nominated for seven Grammys at the 53rd Grammy Awards, winning Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Just the Way You Are".

Mars' music is noted for displaying a wide variety of styles and influences, and contains elements of many different musical genres. He has worked with an assortment of artists from different genres; Mars acknowledges the influences that his collaborations have had on his own music. As a child, he was highly influenced by artists such as Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson and would often impersonate these artists from a young age. Mars also incorporates reggae and Motown inspired sounds into his work. Jon Caramanica of The New York Times referred to Mars as "one of the most versatile and accessible singers in pop."

Parents of Bruno Mars

Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez and raised in the Waikiki neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii, by parents Bernadette "Bernie" and Pete Hernandez, of Filipino and Puerto Rican descent.[4][5][6][7] His mother emigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines as a child and his father moved to the island from Brooklyn, New York.[8] Mars parents met while performing in a show, where his mother was a hula dancer and his father played percussion.[8] At the age of two, Mars was nicknamed "Bruno" by his father, because of his resemblance to chubby professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino.[9] Mars was one of six children and came from a musical family who exposed him to a diverse mix of reggae, rock, hip hop, and R&B.[10][11] From a young age, he was impersonating and performing songs by artists such as Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Isley Brothers, and The Temptations.[6] At age four, Mars began performing five days a week with his family's band, The Love Notes, in which he became known on the island for his impersonation of Presley.
